The South Support Program for Translations has been launched: applications can be submitted until August

On April 15, 2024, the application period for works for the 2024 South Support Program for Translations (“Programa Sur de Apoyo a las Traducciones”) was opened.

This time, exclusive priority will be given to works in Social Sciences and Humanities (essay, literary criticism, philosophy, sociology of culture, etc.) and poetry. All editorial markets and languages will be considered.

The works in Social Sciences and Humanities and poetry may be selected from the catalogs promoted by the General Directorate of Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic ("Argentina Key Titles" and "Bibiodiversa"), or any other work by classic and contemporary Argentine authors, whose themes are representative of national identity.

Publishers interested in submitting nominations to translate works by Argentine authors should be aware that:

1.    Applications must be submitted exclusively through the WeTransfer platform to the emails cio@cancilleria.gob.ar; lzd@cancilleria.gob.ar and privadadicul@cancilleria.gob.ar. The Translation Committee will evaluate applications throughout the year, with no fixed meeting date;

2.    All submissions must be made following the regulations and form available on the Program Sur website: https://programa-sur.cancilleria.gob.ar/;

3.    Regarding payments of subsidies granted by the Program Sur, up to 50% of the agreed amount will be advanced, with the remaining 50% upon delivery of the five (5) copies stipulated in the Program;

4.    Translated works must include the legend specified in Article 12 of the Regulations ("Work edited within the framework of the South Program for Support of Translations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic"), both in Spanish and in the language of the translation.

To date, the South Support Program for Translations has approved 1,700 works translated into 53 languages.

Applications can now be submitted and will be accepted until August 1, 2024.
