As part of the Regional Triangular Cooperation Project aimed at strengthening livestock systems for smallholder farmers in Kenya and Tanzania, a technical team of experts from the National Institute of Agricultural Technology from Argentina (INTA), the Kenyan Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), and the Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI) carried out an extensive two-week agenda of activities.
Activities in Kenya:
* Breakfast meeting at the Argentine Ambassador’s Residence in Nairobi, which provided an opportunity to discuss project progress and reinforce collaboration.
* Meeting with H.E. Jonathan Mueke, Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, to address sector priorities and explore cooperation opportunities.
* Farm visits in Makueni County, where the team assessed livestock practices and potential areas for improvement.
* Technical workshops at the KALRO Kiboko experimental station, focused on sharing knowledge and innovative technologies to advance the sector.
Activities in Tanzania:
* Visit to the Regional Administrative Secretariat in Arusha, where the project and its progress were presented to local authorities.
* Technical meetings between INTA and TALIRI in West Kilimanjaro, aimed at planning and implementing specific proposals.
* Field discussions at TALIRI’s West Kilimanjaro experimental station, where solutions for improving livestock production were reviewed.
* Visits to small-scale farmers in Tinga Tinga and Longido to identify challenges and provide tailored solutions.
* Training workshops in Arusha, designed to transfer technical knowledge and strengthen local capacities.
* Meetings at TALIRI headquarters in Dodoma and with representatives from Tanzania’s Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to consolidate the cooperation framework.
The project receives support from the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ), which acts as a facilitating partner.
