On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the company INVAP S.E. signed a contract with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development of the Republic of Uganda (MEMD) with the goal of conducting a feasibility study and site analysis aimed at establishing a Nuclear Science and Technology Center (CNST) at Soroti University in Uganda. Once operational, the Center is expected to serve as a hub for training, nuclear research, and the production of radioisotopes for medical and agricultural applications, as part of a nuclear program promoted by the Ugandan government.
The contract follows discussions initiated by the MEMD and INVAP S.E., facilitated by the Argentine Foreign Ministry, which led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the parties and a visit by Ugandan government representatives to Argentina. During their visit, they toured facilities and held meetings with authorities from INVAP S.E., Combustibles Nucleares Argentinos S.A. (CONUAR), the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN), the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), and the Argentine Foreign Ministry.
The Argentine Republic welcomes this joint milestone with the Republic of Uganda in pursuit of a peaceful nuclear program, while reaffirming its tradition and commitment to cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear technology.
