21K Buenos Aires Marathon: 13 Kenyan Athletes Running for Glory

Thirteen Kenyan athletes, some of whom have already competed and excelled in previous years, will participate in the upcoming “21K Buenos Aires Marathon”, which will take place on August 25th, in Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina. This new edition of the Half Marathon will start at the intersection of Figueroa Alcorta and Dorrego avenues at 7:30 a.m., covering 21.097 meters through various parts of the city.

This year, the 21k race was selected by World Athletics as one of the top 10 races in the world due to its fast course, massive participation, and excellent organization.
In 2019, it ranked among the three fastest half marathons in the world. With over 20,000 participants each year, this event has become one of the most prominent half marathons worldwide and the number one in Latin America.

The Buenos Aires 21K has a rich history of attracting top-tier athletes. Great runners like the Brazilian Marilson Gomes dos Santos, his compatriot Adriana Aparecida da Silva, the Kenyan Peter Lonyangata, and the Ethiopian Mosinet Geremew have participated in this event.

Notably, in the 2018 edition, the “one-hour barrier” was broken for the first time among men, achieving the best time on American soil for this distance. The current course records stand at 59m 05s for men, set by Kenya's Bedan Karoki in 2019, and 1h 04m 44s for women, set by Ethiopia's Ababel Brihane in the same year.

Furthermore, in 2023, the top four positions were all claimed by Kenyan athletes, underscoring their dominance in this prestigious event. Through this link, you can find the names of the winners: https://www.maratondebuenosaires.com/uploads/ediciones-anteriores/21k/21k-2023.pdf
